Thursday

Chris is having a fantastic day today!  I just got off the phone with him and he sounded so pleased with the PT and OT work that he has been doing over the last several days. I have been in a world championship phone tag session with Chrissy the last few days. I teach all day and I am in rehearsal for a show at Dobama Theater here in Cleveland every night, and our schedules have not been aligning.

When I finally heard his voice today I burst into tears. I love my brother and I miss him dearly.  I haven't seen him since March 26th , and I had become so used to seeing him every day.  Talking with him, hugging him, and just being with him. We haven't spent that much time together since we were kids building blanket forts in the living room or running around playing Star Wars or Rambo in the woods.  Don't tell my grandmother Isabel that I said that because she will have me moved back to New Castle faster than you can say "Chris Niles is the man" three times.

Chris says that he worked on couch transfers today and chair to car transfers. They brought down the silver car and worked on transferring as well as getting his chair transportation ready and loaded in the trunk.  He was very pleased with his progress and will put this skill to good use in coming days when he finally gets a day pass home!

He is also working hard with a lasso in PT in order to put his shoes on himself.  Before he knows it he will be wielding that lasso like Zorro's whip. Hey Chris how is your Spanish accent? :)

Chris says he is eating well and that they have been able to lower his pain meds. He also had another visit with his kids yesterday and that always brightens his day.

Thanks to all the friends and family that have worked so tirelessly to ready the house for his return. We are so lucky to have so many people to love and care for Chris.

What will happen next? Each day is a gift and each day he grows stronger. Till next time...
